As we see it, digital fluency requires not just the ability to chat, browse, and interact but also the ability to design, create, and invent with new media.
// “Scratch: Programming for All”
2:00 pm Saturday 2/6 @ Artillery (+ plan to simulcast to Bucketworks in Milwaukee)
Scratch is a visual computer programming language developed by the MIT Media Lab’s Lifelong Kindergarten group, for teaching computer programming to children and teens (and adults!). Its name refers to the same term in turntablism, and the Scratch development model includes “remixing” others’ works in addition to sharing your own. I will demonstrate the core abilities of Scratch 1.4, as well as physical computing with the PicoBoard sensor board and LEGO WeDo sensors and actuators, and connecting Scratch to other programs and boards such as Processing and Arduino. I will also touch on extending Scratch for more advanced programming.
As Scratch is intended to get children interested in computer programming, this is an especially kid-friendly event.
